Venice Commission To Disclose Opinion on Serbia in Coming Weeks, Adoption in June

The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe will disclose its Opinion on changes of judicial laws in Serbia "in the coming weeks," and its adoption is expected at a session on June 12-13, the Council of Europe announced on March 19.

In a statement it recalled that a delegation from the Commission visited Belgrade on March 16-17 as part of preparations for an urgent opinion on amendments to judicial laws on Jan. 28 which regulate the judiciary and public prosecutors' offices, based on a request from Serbian Speaker Ana Brnabic.

The delegation met with Brnabic, the minister of justice, MPs, as well as representatives of the High Prosecutorial Council, the High Judicial Council, the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office, the Special Department for Curbing Cybercrime and the Public Prosecutor's  Office for Organized Crime.

The delegation also met with representatives of civil society, professional organizations of judges and prosecutors, representatives of the EU Delegation to Serbia and other international partners, the statement added.
