Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, said on April 27 that Serbia’s decision to take part in the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon was “ye another demonstration of how the international public legal order is protected and defended, and how peace is preserved.”

Speaking at a reception for members of the Army of Serbia who had been part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) over the past eight months, the president said that the work conditions had been very difficult, especially since the beginning of what he described as “declared and undeclared state of war” in the Middle East.

“Under those extremely demanding circumstances, one could gain valuable experience to be passed on colleagues at home,” Vucic said at the reception he hosted at the Presidency of Serbia in Belgrade.

Vucic recalled that the Army of Serbia’s servicemen had been deployed in the West Sector of the UNIFIl mission, alongside Italian troops. “Whenever I spoke with Italian officials, they praised our soldiers, their participation in the UNIFIL, and requested that the Serbian contingent be expanded,” the president said.

Vucic also called on the Chief of the General Staff, Milan Mojsilovic, to make sure that preparations for further modernization of the army be accelerated, particularly in terms of forming units for unmanned weapons and systems, including robots and drones, as well as for the use of artificial intelligence.
