Members of the Serbian parliament are starting an emergency sitting on June 17, the agenda of which includes - among other things - amendments to a set of judicial laws that the authorities have agreed to change at the suggestion of the Council of Europe's Venice Commission.

The legal acts in question are the so-called "Mrdic's laws," which were adopted in January at the initiative of ruling Serbian Progressive Party MP Ugljesa Mrdic and which have already been amended at the Commission's initiative, but not to a sufficient extent.

The MPs will discuss amendments to the Law on Public Prosecution, the Law on Judges, the Law on the High Prosecutorial Council, the Law on the seats and territorial jurisdiction of courts and public prosecutors' offices, and the Law on the organization and competences of state bodies for the fight against high-tech crime.

Draft amendments to the Law on Human Cells and Tissues, the Law on Human Organ Transplantation, and a number of laws pertaining to the economy are also on the agenda.
