Aris Movsesijan, the vice president of the Free Citizens Movement, said on Aug. 19 that the party has not made a decision on running in the upcoming elections and that it will do so once they are called.
"When the elections are called, that is, when they become certain, the responsible bodies of the [Free Citizens Movement] will decide on its running in the elections. Such an important matter cannot be decided by an individual, nor can the decision be taken for granted," Movsesijan told the Danas daily.
He added that this is by no means to say that the Free Citizens Movement does not have a clear political direction, or that it is "twiddling its thumbs," pointing out that it formed the Platform for a European Serbia together with the Freedom and Justice Party and the Serbia Center party. "But one should distinguish political direction from a formal decision on the manner of running in an election. The Platform for a European Serbia is an important political framework and a step toward rallying pro-European forces, but in itself it is not the decision on the final electoral ticket.
The Free Citizens Movement vice president said it is too soon to speak of who will head the ticket, in what format the party will run, with whom any election agreements will be made and who will be the presidential candidate, adding that the same goes for the possibility of broader cooperation, including with the student protest movement or the group rallied around Miroslav Aleksic's People's Movement of Serbia.
