Vucic on Social Media: We Will Defend the Will of the People

Aleksandar Vucic, who heads the United Serbia election list, has said that the people are determined to defend their will in the upcoming elections and that his coalition is also fully prepared to do so, adding that an increasing number of voters want to cast ballots for to prevent a victory of “those who would destroy the country.”

“We are fully ready to defend the will of the people, and we will defend it. We will not engage into any electoral fraud, and we have never done that. And they have - all of them. Half of the candidates on their list are remnants of the old politics and the old regime, who stole and plundered this country to the point of exhaustion,” Vucic said during a live broadcast on TikTok and Facebook in the evening on Sept. 28.

“We have always, both personally and as a political party, endorsed any election outcome, negative or positive, respecting the will of the people”, Vucic said, according to a release from his ruling Serbian Progressive Party.

Speaking about the upcoming election night on Oct. 25, Vucic said that the relevant state institutions, if necessary, will protect and safeguard the election results. 

“If need be, if someone tries to subvert the election results using violence, we will defend and protect them. And there will be no announcements of results, because I never rush to declare election results,” he said. On Sept. 27, Vucic resigned as Serbian president, with Assembly speaker Ana Brnabic assuming the role of interim president until a new one is elected.
