EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on Oct. 22 that he expected an EU-North Macedonian intergovernmental conference to be held as quickly as possible, the Skopje government has said in a statement.
The government said that Borrell said this in the first in a series of video discussions between North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and officials in Brussels. "For Brussels it is very important that intense cooperation is being extended with the government which has demonstrated its commitment to North Macedonia's integration with the EU, " Borrell told Zaev.
Zaev then met with European Council President Charles Michel who said that one of his top priorities was the integration of the Western Balkans with at the EU. Michel praised the North Macedonian government's and citizens' devotion to achieving European standards in all areas, including harmonizing foreign policy with the EU.
