Basic bread products cost 65 cents in Montenegro as of Jan. 10, after a 30 percent hike from the old price of 50 cents.

An association of bakery product makers at the Montenegrin Chamber of Commerce has decided to raise the prices of basic breads after the holidays.

In a statement issued late in December 2021, The Montenegrin Ministry of Economic Development proposed the free formation of prices of white bread starting Jan. 1.

This means that the July 2021 decree limiting prices is no longer in force and bakers and stores will be able to form their own prices of this staple, as they used to be. In July 2021, the government limited the price of white wheat bread to 50 cents for a 500-600 gram loaf.
