There were 1,874 new cases of infection with the coronavirus in Croatia in the past 24 hours, while 17 people died, the National Civil Defense Headquarters announced on Aug. 18.

There are currently 7,277 active cases in Croatia, with 636 patients receiving treatment in hospitals, 31 of them on ventilators, the Hina agency has reported. Since the start of the epidemic, 1,203,617 people have been infected with the coronavirus and 16,545 have died.

Croatia will procure 10,000 doses of the drug Remdesivir, for treating severe cases of the infection in patients who require additional oxygen, it was decided at the Aug. 18 session of the government, the first after the summer recess.

Due to the current epidemiological situation and the need for additional quantities of Remdesivir, the requirement of 10,000 doses of that drug has been declared for the territory of Croatia until Sept. 30, on the basis of the opinion of medical professionals, Croatian Health Minister Vili Beros stated during the session.
