During his Sept. 14 meeting with Montenegrin Foreign Minister Ranko Krivokapic, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic reiterated Croatia's firm support to a modern Montenegro, stressing that its negotiations with the EU must not be held hostage to regional relations, it was stated in Zagreb.

"Milanovic believes that Montenegro's negotiations with the EU must not be held hostage to relations in the region, or conditioned by the negotiation processes of other candidates, because Montenegro has unambiguously demonstrated its commitment both to membership in NATO and in the EU," reads the statement of the Croatian president's media service.

During the conversation with Krivokapic, who is paying an official visit to Croatia, Milanovic declared firm support to Montenegro on its European path, assessing that the country was well ahead in the EU membership negotiations since it had opened the final negotiation chapter, to which Croatia has also contributed. In the previous days of his official visit to Croatia, Krivokapic met with Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic Radman.
