The European commissioner for neighborhood and enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, stated in Sarajevo on May 17 that he was pleased with the work and the initiative of the new Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the fulfilling of the 14 priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission, in order for Bosnia to become a member of the EU.

“Bosnia has been granted the status of member candidate and that was the trigger for what we are doing nowadays and in the forthcoming period,” Varhelyi stated while opening the High Level Political Forum about the European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Varhelyi added that EU leaders wanted to have Bosnia as a partner and a member state. “You are witnessing an engagement that is powerful and that will lead, I hope, to concrete results. What I saw and heard now is proof of the industriousness of this nomenclature at all levels,” stated the European commissioner.

Commenting on the announced visit of Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik to Moscow and meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Varhelyi said that EU allies did not go to Russia. “As for the visit to Russia – our allies do not go to Russia. Our support is here and that is why I am here. We need concrete results,” Varhelyi stated.
