Serbian Chamber of Commerce President Marko Cadez said on Jan. 23 that the establishment of a free labor market, which will come into effect as of March 1 in the countries partaking in the Open Balkans initiative - Serbia, North Macedonia, and Albania - would be extremely important for Serbia due to the upcoming farming season.

Cadez further said that, according to data from surveys, more than half of the companies in Serbia and North Macedonia had a problem with a workforce deficit.

He underlined that the signing of the agreement on a free labor market was particularly important because of the upcoming farming season in Serbia and the tourist season in Albania.

"Students will be able to work at the seaside over the summer and earn money," Cadez told Pink TV.

He said that many qualified workers were going to other labor markets in the EU, whereas now they would have an opportunity to stay in the region, which would create circular migration.

As part of the Open Balkans initiative, in Skopje on Jan. 22 two protocols were signed which will enable the forming of a free labor market for the Open Balkans member countries - one on implementing an agreement on conditions for free access to the labor market in the Western Balkans, and another on interconnecting templates for the electronic identification of Western Balkan citizens.
