The European Council late on March 21 green-lighted the start of Bosnia and Herzegovina's membership negotiations with the EU, calling on the European Commission to prepare the negotiating framework so that the Council can adopt it when the country meets all the conditions set before it by the Commission in October 2022.

Following the Commission's decision of March 12, 2024, the European Council has decided to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The European Council calls on the Commission to prepare the negotiating framework so that the Council can adopt it once all the relevant steps cited in the Commission's recommendation of Oct. 12, 2022 are taken, reads the conclusion from the European Council session.

The conditions in question are 14 priorities of the European Commission, which were originally a requisite for opening the negotiations, of which Bosnia and Herzegovina has adopted only a couple of reform laws and signed an agreement with Frontex.
