Last week, the news that the media companies that are part of United Group got a new management sent shockwaves through Serbia, as many perceive it as the coup de grâce in the process of snuffing out the country’s leading independent media outlets. Experts say this is most likely the implementation of Aleksandar Vucic’s plan to change the editorial policy of said media outlets, including the N1 and Nova S TV stations, weekly Radar, the dailies Danas and Nova, and their websites. Although that conclusion cannot yet be drawn with 100% certainty, a number of elements indicate that these media may soon start resembling the moderate pro-regime televisions, such as Euronews Srbija or Prva TV.
