Based on 99 percent of ballots counted, Zoran Milanovic, the incumbent president of Croatia and candidate of the oppositional Social Democratic Party, won the second round of the country’s presidential election with 74.69 percent of votes, which is the most decisive victory anyone has achieved in a follow-up vote in Croatia.

The landslide victory took place on Jan. 12, against Dragan Primorac, the candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union, who garnered 25.31 percent of voter support.

With over 1,222,000 votes versus Primorac’s roughly 380,000, Milanovic won not only the most second-round votes ever, but also surpassed his opponent by the widest recorded margin.

Such a disparity is not that surprising given that, in the first round of elections held two weeks ago, Milanovic was less than one percent of votes shy of victory.
