EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated in Tirana on March 13 that Albania’s path to the EU was certain and was happening, reiterating that the country could count on Brussels’ full support.

During a joint news conference with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Kos pointed out that Albania should be part of the EU, because Europe strengthens by EU enlargement, the ABC News Albania has reported. “Your country is doing really well on its EU path, in this geopolitics today where… everything is possible. Your path to the EU is for sure, and it is happening and it is real. I like seeing you… and your team being so passionate about your country… and the EU,” Kos stated.

She stated that she came to express support to the ambitious, but realistic goals of the Albanian government. “I quoted that you wanted to finish the negotiations until 2027 and we are on a very good way, we have good prospects… about opening all the clusters by the end of the year. We know this is not only about opening, it is also about closing and I am sure that, with all the reforms you are doing, this is possible. We really want Albania to join the European Union because, with you in the European Union, Europe will be stronger,” Kos stated.

Rama said that the vision and goal of the ruling majority was the reform of the judiciary, which would not be possible without the European prospects. He added that the myth of impunity had been dismantled in Albania. “Nowadays, for the first time in the history of the Albanian state, we have people of high public profile, connected with political authority, who are facing justice, are under investigation and are tried by independent judges and prosecutors,” Rama stated.
