On Oct. 1, Eric Beisswenger, Bavarian state minister for Europe and international affairs, started his three-day tour of the Western Balkans, which includes visits to Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro, according to a statement from the Bavarian State Government.

Beisswenger has said that cooperation with neighbors in the region is a key element of Bavaria’s foreign strategy, where, according to him, Bavaria has a special role and responsibility. “It is about the strength of Europe, about internal cohesion”, he said.

“The Western Balkans has already made considerable progress in the context of democratic development, efforts invested in international recognition and stability. This deserves great respect and recognition. But the Western Balkan countries still have a long way to go. Now it is important to create an efficient administration”, Beisswenger said.

The Bavarian State Government has said that the minister will speak with top officials of Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro. In Tirana, Beisswenger, as an official representative of the Bavarian Government, will attend the celebration of the German Unity Day, commemorating unification of East and West Germany on Oct. 3, 1990, the State Government has said.
