U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Statehood Day, celebrated on Nov. 25, but only in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the message, addressed to the chairman of the Presidency, Zeljko Komsic, Trump congratulated the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the anniversary of statehood, Sarajevo media reported.

“As you celebrate this important day, I call on your leaders to seize the current opportunity to work together toward local solutions supported by all constituent peoples. This will strengthen stability in the country and allow us to deepen our partnership based on shared interests and mutual benefit,” Trump wrote.

On this day in 1943, at the first session of the State Anti-Fascist Council for the National Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ZAVNOBiH) in Mrkonjic Grad, the ZAVNOBiH Resolution was adopted, which politicians in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina consider the foundation of the modern statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Republika Srpska disputes Nov. 25 as Bosnia and Herzegovina Statehood Day, arguing that today’s Bosnia and Herzegovina was established by the Dayton Peace Agreement, not by ZAVNOBiH.
