Since the end of October, when Prime Minister Milojko Spajic's government temporarily introduced visas for Turkish citizens, almost 9,000 Turkish citizens have left Montenegro while 194 requests for visas filed by citizens of that country were approved, a Nov. 27 statement said.
According to the Interior Ministry's earlier information, around 13,000 Turkish nationals were officially residing in Montenegro. The Interior Ministry told Vijesti that since Oct. 27, when the executive government introduced visas for Turkish citizens, until Nov. 26, 8,935 citizens of Turkey had left Montenegro.
Asked how many Turkish citizens who left had permanent or temporary residency in Montenegro, the Ministry replied that a detailed check of each individual case was necessary to establish the exact number. "Such a process would demand significant time and the engagement of a large number of staff" given the scale," the Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry told Vijesti that since Oct. 30 when a decision on temporarily introducing visas for Turkish nationals took effect, 320 requests for Montenegrin visas were processed. Out of that number 194 were approved, 29 rejected and the remaining 97 are being processed.
