General Elections in Bosnia on Oct. 4

The Central Electoral Commission scheduled on May 7 the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina for Oct. 4.

The elections have been scheduled for the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the People’s Assembly of Republika Srpska (RS), the president and vice-president of RS and the cantonal assemblies in the Federation. All members of the Electoral Commission voted for the elections, the results of which should be known not later than Nov. 20.

The Commission also verified the Central Voter Roster, according to which more than 3,414,000 people have the right to vote. Particular political parties in the Federation have already nominated the candidates for the Bosniac and Croatian members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are elected in that entity. The Democratic Front of Zeljko Komsic has announced that they would nominate Slaven Kovacevic for the post of Croatian member of Bosnia’s Presidency; the candidate of the Croatian Democratic Union will be Darijana Filipovic, while Croatian opposition parties have announced that Zdenko Lucic would be their candidate.

As for the Bosniac member of the Presidency, there is the repeated nomination of Denis Becirovic of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina will nominate Semir Efendic. Bihac Mayor Suhret Fazlic has also been nominated, while the largest opposition party, the Party of Democratic Action, has not yet announced the name of its candidate. In RS, neither the ruling coalition of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats nor the opposition have announced their candidates for the posts of Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and president of RS.
