Belje Plus, a member of the Fortenova Group, on Oct. 28 signed a contract with Meggle Croatia on the purchase of Meggle’s dairy in Osijek, according to a joint press release.

The release reads that by purchasing Meggle’s real estate and production line, Belje Plus will maintain the long tradition of milk production in that part of Slavonia.

By launching production in Osijek on Jan. 1, Belje will buy up a certain quantity of milk from Meggle’s current cooperators.

The need for employees is still being assessed, and some 100 people are expected to be employed, the press release specifies.

The Fortenova Group, a successor of Agrokor which also operates in Serbia, now produces roughly 10% of the total quantity of milk in Croatia, which accounts for about 5% of the market’s needs.

The Fortenova Group CEO Fabris Perusko has said that Belje needed additional production facilities and the withdrawal of Meggle allowed it to obtain those facilities quickly.
