AIK-Bank
The AikBank, the largest domestic private bank in Serbia, is the first to have received the official approval of the European Payments Council (EPC) for joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), it was announced on Jan. 22.
This means that, as of May this year, the bank’s clients will be able to perform payments toward 41 SEPA member countries in seconds, with commissions that are orders of magnitude lower. Since Serbia officially became part of the Single Euro Payments Area in May 2025, AikBank has been the first to have fulfilled all the technical, security and operative standards required for participating in SEPA, the bank’s statement reads.
“To be the first bank in Serbia to have been green-lighted for SEPA is proof of our agile approach, innovation and commitment to being in step with the developed markets. I am proud that AikBank has fulfilled the complex demands for joining SEPA. I believe that our clients will be equally pleased in a few months when they start using the ability to perform foreign payments in a quicker, simpler and more favorable way,” stated the chairman of the Executive Board of AikBank, Petar Jovanovic.
According to the statement, the systemic implementation of SEPA standards in Serbia will significantly improve the way in which the citizens and commerce perform payments in euros. Besides the fact that currency payments towards foreign countries will be realized in seconds, they will be carried out via a unified payment order format, which makes the process more practical. The member states of SEPA are 27 EU members, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, the Vatican, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Moldova and Serbia.
