Oil and gas company NIS (BETAPHOTO/EMIL VAS)
The Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) oil company has submitted a new request to the U.S. finance ministry’s Office for Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for the special license for operating beyond Sept. 30, when the previous license expires, it was announced on Sept. 24.
The company announced on its web site that their unobstructed work, the normal operation of the Oil Refinery Pancevo and supply of the market was crucial for preserving energy stability in Serbia.
Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said a month ago, when the operating license for NIS was last extended, that negotiations on a deal between Hungary’s MOL as the potential buyer and NIS’ majority owner Gazpromneft were in the final phase and that the extension was a signal for additional time for the transaction to be completed. There has been no new information on the sale of NIS since.
