The Slovenian Pipistrel company has built the first electric plane in the world, which has been certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), meaning that it complies with safety standards and is ready for commercial use.

The battery-powered two-seater Pipistrel Velis Electro is intended for training pilots, Reuters has reported, adding that the plane was capable of 50 minutes of flight and longer if its reserves were charged, which is typical for flight school, B92 has reported.

Pipistrel will be shipping 31 Velis Electro to seven countries this year.
