The appointment of Aleksandar Vulin, until recently Serbia’s interior minister, to the leading post in the national intelligence service, the Security and Information Agency (BIA), has made parts of the political community deeply skeptical. Pro-European opposition parties and security experts have criticized the choice in unison, warning at Vulin’s close ties with Russia, his attitude towards political opponents and other nations, let alone a clear lack of professional competence and involvement in a long string of scandals.
