Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spent five days in the Podrinje region (Drina River valley) last week, with the aim of convincing the denizens of western Serbia that Rio Tinto’s Jadar project is safe and that the authorities care about citizens’ health. It is a campaign similar to an election one, whereby Vucic responded to the recent mass protests across Serbia and the refusal of a large number of citizens to accept the opening of a lithium mine near Loznica.
