On July 8, Serbia’s Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic urged the protesting public “not to clash with police” because the job of the police, he said, is to ensure life goes on “normally.”

“Last night a gendarmerie officer was attacked and injured. Two persons assaulted him. This is something the police cannot allow… The police have no other motive than for life to go on normally. That is why we are urging everyone not to clash with police,” Dacic told Pink TV regarding the traffic blockades throughout Serbia the public has been staging daily since June 29.

Dacic added that the police “has no ambition to solve political issues” and refuted allegations of officers overstepping their authority during interventions.
