Students and other demonstrators, and supporters of President Aleksandar Vucic marked Serbian Statehood Day on Feb. 15 with parallel gatherings sending sharply opposite messages. Students in Kragujevac, to which they walked from Belgrade, Nis and Kraljevo, reiterated their demand for fundamental changes in the country (specifically, for institutions to start doing their job), while Vucic recycled old nationalist themes in Sremska Mitrovica, accusing the demonstrators of being instruments in the hands of the West, which is allegedly trying to carry out a “color revolution” in Serbia.
