Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his closest associates started 2026 off in the same fashion as they ended 2025 – with anti-European rhetoric and measures. The state leadership’s so-called “Christmas celebration” on the pro-government Informer TV was a parade of kitsch, nationalism and chauvinism that was followed up by sharp attacks by the government’s senior officials on a European Parliament delegation scheduled to visit Serbia next week to evaluate the situation in the country. In both cases the anti-European narrative was directed at preserving the votes of the Serbian Progressive Party’s hardcore electorate.
