Disregarding the strong criticism and warnings from experts, the opposition and the European Union, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic last week signed amendments to judicial laws, which are a direct attack on the independence of the judiciary and prosecution. The objective of that move is to prevent the prosecution of high-ranking members of the ruling coalition and consequently the fight against organized crime and corruption, whereas the long-term goal is Vucic’s survival in power.
