Undermining the Idea of Serbia’s Neutrality

Attempts by the Serbian authorities and President Aleksandar Vucic to demonstrate that Serbia is successfully balancing between Russia and the West and is firmly committed to military neutrality have to some extent been brought into question after a recent scandal involving a former assistant to the Russian military attaché in Belgrade, Georgy Kleban. A leaked footage showed Kleban handing money to an unnamed Serbian army officer and Serbian intelligence services confirmed that the footage, taken in December 2018, is genuine.
