Coronavirus, State of Emergency and Protests
The coronavirus epidemic in Serbia is threatening to get out of hand, the number of infected is constantly growing, while the health care system is finding it increasingly difficult to deal with the crisis. The Serbian authorities, which are incessantly repeating that Serbia’s health care is in excellent condition and that there are sufficient drugs and equipment, are forced to lead a campaign on two fronts. One is the effort to maintain the public image of a country successfully dealing with its problems, while the other is to keep the otherwise weak health care system on its feet – a system whose capacities have been constantly deteriorating for decades now.
