Taking a Step Away from Belgrade
The decision of a Croatian deputy prime minister from the ranks of the Serb minority, Boris Milosevic, to attend a ceremony marking the anniversary of military Operation Storm that resulted in the expulsion of some 200,000 Serbs from Croatia, will affect in the long term the Serbian authorities’ attitude toward the Serbs in Croatia and consequently the relations between Serbia and Croatia and, probably, the overall situation in the region too. This is a first-class political event that indicates a policy shift of the Serb minority in Croatia and its further distancing from the views and actions of the government in Belgrade, as well as from the organizations of Croatian Serbs who have continued living in Serbia and who largely operate in the country.
