The deal of the century, as the Government of Serbia’s contract with the Italian Fiat car manufacturer was referred to in 2008 when the government decided to join an investment drive to support the national Zastava car factory in Kragujevac, has recently turned into agony for nearly 2000 workers. The Stellantis group, the Fiat operates within, has recently announced a plan to stop the production of the Fiat 500L model in the Serbian city, and start preparations for a new electric vehicle line, adding that some 500 workers will be redundant in the process.
