Wielding Influence over the State and Underworld
The arrest of shady businessman Branislav Micunovic reverberated both in Montenegro and the region given that he was known as an untouchable man with huge influence over politicians, business circles and the Balkan underworld. Micunovic (aged 70), better known as Brano, was arrested on Orthodox Christmas Eve, Jan. 6, after police found a pistol on him. After being detained by police he was released to defend himself as a free person. The new government did this to send a message that there would be no more untouchables.
