Democratic Party president Zoran Lutovac said on March 3 after a decision by the party's vice-president Sasa Paunovic to leave the party and participate in local elections in Paracin, that the party's decision to boycott the election was unambiguous and thanked Paunovic for openly voicing his views before the party's organs.

"As president of the party and speaking for all of its members I can thank Sasa for voicing his view to the party's organs and thereby demonstrating that he respects not only the party's interests, but also the interests of each member of this party in which he has spent 28 years. Also, more importantly, we understand his responsibility to the citizens of Paracin and therefore value even more his efforts to represent his stance in a way that does not jeopardize the party's functioning," Lutovac was quoted as saying in a party statement.

He reiterated that the Democratic Party had passed a clear decision to boycott the next "false elections" on all levels and that the party that he leads would respect its decisions, and that everyone who did not adhere to the party's decisions would be sanctioned according to the party's statute.
