Epidemiologist Predrag Kon on March 24 said that atop of the already imposed coronavirus countermeasures, it was not necessary for the time being to resort to complete isolation of cities, such as Belgrade.
“Everything is still under appropriate control and we should keep going and remain persistent,” Kon told state national broadcaster RTS, noting that the situation could have been worse in Serbia and that we could not be unhappy.
“We are still keeping the curve of coronavirus cases flat and slowing the spread. I hope that we will manage to buy more time and contain outbreaks. It is encouraging to see the number of cases dropping in Italy, showing that the epidemic has passed its peak,” Kon said.
Police Director Vladimir Rebic on March 24 said that police officers had been escorting crews of each freight vehicle entering and passing through Serbia as a transit country, all the way to Dimitrovgrad, Presevo and all other border crossings.
“International transport crews are allowed to stop only at precisely designated gas stations, which are later subject to disinfection procedures,” Rebic said, adding that since entry bans had been imposed, two aircraft had landed in Serbia, with the government’s permission, stressing that police officers and sanitary inspectors had checked the passengers.
According to the latest report from March 23, Serbia has registered a total of 249 confirmed cases and three deaths.
