Opposition leader Jeremic: We won't participate in elections untill conditions change

The president of the People's Party, Vuk Jeremic, stated on May 20 that, in the middle of the epidemic and the state of emergency, the authorities needlessly criticized the European Union in order to score political points.

"It is necessary to end the quarrelling and the offending of all the international representatives who have influence in Serbia. The way in which Serbian officials referred to the EU at news conferences and in public addresses at the start of the state of emergency, was completely unnecessary," Jeremic told TV N1.

Jeremic, who is also the former foreign minister, said that Europe experienced difficult moments during the pandemic and that, even today, "things in the EU do not function at their best, as the result of the crisis," adding that this was not a reason to open a front against this extremely important political and economic partner of Serbia.

He stated that he had met with many international officials, primarily European ones, and added that there was currently "no final decision within Europe about whether it would even be able to send observers, if the election in Serbia were to be held on July 21."
