People’s Party leader Vuk Jeremic said on June 4 that his party is boycotting the coming elections because it promised to do so and that it would be good to have someone in Serbia finally keep their publicly given promise, no matter the price they might pay as a result.

“People’s Party has renounced the budget funding and privileges that would come from the number of parliamentary and committee seats won in captive institutions. We won’t, for the sake of practical advantages, trample on our ideals, and we refuse to be parasites in a system we want to change. I am sure that there will be those who will know how to appreciate this in the future,” Jeremic said in an interview for June 4 issue of the NIN weekly.

When asked if there have been talks within the Alliance for Serbia about a more active fight against the authorities, Jeremic said that as long as the atmosphere of brutal conflict reins, the only one who will benefit from it are those who feed on destruction.

Jeremic asked if there is an example of an organization in Serbia today whose actions are worthy of praise.

“What are the relations in the media today? In the Church? Sports? Judiciary? Local authorities? We’ve sunk so low, and we keep going down. We have to find the strength to face the truth, confess we have been mistaken and that we need a reset on all levels. I believe that our togetherness in keeping our word and solidarity in joint renouncement of systemic privileges will enable it,” Jeremic said.
