Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said during a June 17 visit to Belgrade that his country didn't want to interfere in Serbia internal affairs, but that it would be rooting for the ruling coalition in the next Serbian polls.

"This visit has a purpose. We don't want to interfere in Serbia's internal affairs, but we can cheer, can't we? We do cheer for the ruling coalition," the Hungarian minister said after a meeting in the capital with his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic.

Szijjarto explained that "Hungary is rooting for the ruling coalition, because the Alliance of Vojvodina's Hungarians is part of it." "On the other hand, this coalition is very important, because it is with this coalition that we have built historically good, friendly relations. From an angle of national interests it is equally important for the Hungarians and the Serbs," the minister said.

Serbia's success is in the best interest of Hungary - the more successful Serbia is, the better for its northern neighbor. "We cooperated very well during the pandemic, now comes the time to strengthen economic ties," Szijjarto said.
