Hungary will not accept the EU's recommendation to add non-EU members to the list of the corona virus "safe" countries, with the exception of Serbia, Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on July 2.

"We cannot support the EU's request at this time, with the exception of Serbia, because that would be against the interests of health of the Hungarian people," Orban stated.

In a video-message posted on Facebook, Orban stated that Hungary was also re-establishing "humanitarian corridors" for foreigners in transit to be able to pass through the country.

The European Council recommended the opening of EU borders as of July 1, for 14 countries outside of the Union, including Serbia. Other countries on that list are Montenegro, Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.
