Belgrade Mayor Zoran Radojicic said on July 6 that the works on turning the Stark Arena sports hall into a temporary COVID-19 hospital for those who tested positive, are coming to an end, adding that the first patients are expected to arrive later that day.
Radojicic told RTS public service that it will not be like at the beginning of the epidemic, when only asymptomatic cases were sent to the temporary hospitals, but that Stark Arena will host those with mild and moderate symptoms as well.
"People have been working throughout the night at remodeling the rooms that will hold the hospital beds. The military is here, at this moment, to deliver the beds, and we believe that the Arena will be ready to receive its first patients sometime this afternoon,” Radojicic said.
He said that the point is that the space is equipped to receive the number of patients it has to receive. “It’s certain that the more severe cases will be closer to the intensive care, but they surely won’t be put next to asymptomatic ones,” the mayor said.
He recalled that as of July 6, the authorities will closely oversee the wearing of masks in closed spaces, and those found disobeying the decision will be fined RSD5,000.
