The eighth consecutive protest before the National Assembly, held in Belgrade on July 14, attracted several hundred citizens and ended peacefully. The building was secured by fewer police than during the previous nights.
The protesters gathered in groups around Sasa Radulovic, leader of the Enough Is Enough party, and MP Srdjan Nogo. There was no chanting or whistling against the authorities which marked the previous demonstrations.
At the same time some 100 people gathered in front of Belgrade’s Central Prison demanding the release of citizens arrested for participating in the protests.
The Appellate Misdemeanor Court annulled the verdicts of the Belgrade Misdemeanor Court against scientist Vladimir Mentus and an activist of the For the Roof over Our Heads movement, Igor Sljapic, sentenced to 30 days in prison, the Insider portal has reported. They were accused of insulting police officers during the weekend protest in Belgrade.
Among others, Democratic Party leader Zoran Lutovac spoke at the rally pointing out that the people had gathered to show solidarity and demonstrate that they do not want “to be mere subjects, but free citizens.”
Protests were also organized in other cities in Serbia.
