The World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Serbia Marijan Ivanusa said on Sept. 23 that Serbia's epidemiological situation was one of the best in Europe at this point, and that it "holds up well" after a "significant" deterioration in July and August.
"It turns out that it takes basic, simple measures to put the epidemic under control," Ivanusa said in an interview with the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS).
When asked if he would recommend a state of emergency, Ivanusa said that the current situation in Serbia was good, and that he didn't see why any additional measures should be introduced. "The situation needs to be monitored on a daily basis, and if it worsens, additional measures should be considered," the WHO representative said.
Speaking of the status of the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe and globally, Ivanusa said it's clear the virus wasn't losing strength, appealing for particular caution this autumn, when people tend to spend more time indoors, accelerating the spread of the virus.
