Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Oct. 5 nominated hitherto Prime Minister Ana Brnabic for the position of new prime minister-designate.

At a press conference held at the Palace of Serbia, Vucic said that he had had more candidates, but that he had opted for Ana Brnabic because she had taken her job seriously and had not kowtowed to foreign power centers.

"She did her job well and the best proof of that is the large amount of criticism at her expense, because she was loyal to Serbia and fought for the interests of our country... I had nothing to resent her for in terms of anything major, while I could resent her for some small things, but I could resent myself for quite a few things, too," said Vucic.

He added that he had suggested to Ana Brnabic to pick women for at least a half of the ministerial positions, and to introduce two more ministries which would deal with issues of family and gender equality.

Previously, the Serbian Progressive Party leadership unanimously supported Vucic's candidate for new prime minister-designate.
