The Serbian government's crisis headquarters for the fight against the coronavirus decided on Oct. 7 to shorten the work hours for all hospitality establishments, so now all restaurants and cafes, including those with outdoor seating that have been allowed to stay open longer, must close at 11:00 p.m..
A member of the headquarters, Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, stated after the session that the measure would take effect on Oct. 8. TV N1 quoted her as saying that there was "a slight increase" in the number of daily infections in the past few days.
"The moment is crucial for abiding by the measures, to wear a mask indoors, to avoid gatherings of many people," she stated, recollecting that the number of people gathering indoors was limited to 30 and that this had always been in effect.
She warned that both the control and the sanctions for non-compliance with the measures would become stricter, because there was a "visible" rising trend in the number of new infections, especially in the territory of Belgrade.
