27 people died of the consequences of the coronavirus infection in Serbia in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities in the epidemic to 1,081, it was announced on the covid19.rs web-site on Nov. 18.
There were 5,613 new infections registered among the 18,040 tested people. There are 182 patients on ventilators, out of the 5,317 who are being treated in hospitals.
The director of the Clinical Center of Serbia, Milika Asanin, stated on Nov. 18 that a third of coronavirus infections in Serbia call for hospitalization, and that around 20 percent of the infected display serious symptoms.
Asanin told TV Pink that the epidemiological situation in Serbia was critical and threatening to get out of control. "Our prognosis is that this will last. Only by adhering to the measures will we be able to suppress the epidemic and reduce it to a tolerable level," Asanin stated.
