Human rights watch
During 2020, Serbia accomplished limited progress in the field of protection of human rights, the organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) assessed on Jan. 13, in its annual report about the state of human rights in the world.
In the part about Serbia, HRW declared that, during last year, journalists were faced with threats, violence and intimidation, with those responsible seldom being called to account. It was added that efforts in the criminal prosecution of war criminals still focused on lower-ranking perpetrators, while attacks and threats against LGBT persons continued.
As for media freedom, HRW stated that the attacks and threats to journalists, to which the Serbian authorities failed to respond adequately, remained a cause for concern.
HRW also stated that small progress was made in the finding of lasting solutions for the refugees and internally displaced people from the wars in the Balkans, who live in Serbia.
