TANJUG: Treatment Special, Status Unclear

Long-time director of the Tanjug news agency Branka Djukic is no longer in that position, having failed to reach an agreement with the new owners of the Tanjug seal and property rights on her future engagement, the Journalists' Association of Serbia reported on Feb. 8, citing unofficial information.

Association representatives said that the former Tanjug director had refused to talk about the reasons for her departure and that they had not managed to get answers to who would replace her and whether any of the employees had left with her from Zeljko Joksimovic and Manja Grcic either. The two are the legal representatives of Minacord Media, one of the founders of the Tacno company which has bought the rights to the Tanjug seal and property rights.

The Association recalled that the Serbian Property Directorate confirmed in December 2020 that Belgrade-based Tacno purchased for EUR628,000 the right to use Tanjug's property rights during a certain period of time.

Tanjug was officially shut down five years ago after no one showed interest in buying it, but continued to operate nonetheless. The action plan for implementing the Media Strategy envisages the first quarter of 2021 as the deadline for wrapping up Tanjug's privatization.
