Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has stated that the Serbs and Macedonians have always been friends and brothers and that cooperation between the two countries is constantly advancing.

“The latest act of the brotherly love shown by the Serbian people – the donation of 8,000 doses of the vaccine at the time of its shortage throughout the world and in Serbia itself – was a demonstration of true friendship that I myself and our people will not forget,” Zaev told the N1 TV station in the evening on March 9.

Asked if the donation of the vaccine ends the period when three to four years ago the severing of diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Skopje appeared very close, Zaev said that he “solved the problem” with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic as soon as he took over as the prime minister.

“Our cooperation is excellent. There were some challenging moments in the past at the time of the change of government (in Skopje) in 2017, because of a widespread wiretapping of people. But since I took over my position in the government, our cooperation with Serbia has been constantly advancing,” Zaev stated.

The Macedonian prime minister also said that the Balkans is no longer a powder keg, but a European region in which bridges of friendship are being built and solutions found through dialogue.
