EU Minister for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell is encouraging Bosnia to seize 2021 as a non-election year for decisive steps toward implementing the 14 key priorities listed in the European Commission's opinion on Bosnia and Herzegovina's candidacy for EU membership, the European External Actions Service (EEAS) said in a March 11 statement.

At a meeting with Bosnian Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic in Brussels, Borrell stressed that the EU supported Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence and called on the country to overcome its past and move from Dayton to Brussels.

Borrell, the statement said, hailed recent positive steps in conducting reforms and stressed the EU's devotion to supporting Bosnia on its European road.

He recalled the migrant crisis in Bosnia in early 2021 and stressed the importance of establishing a sustainable system of migrations and asylum-seeking, coupled with a more just division of responsibilities across the country.
